Time to donate

Now that the 2012 World Series is over, it’s time to send your donations to Pitch In For Baseball. I ended up snagging 640 balls in 80 games, so the math is pretty simple. Click here and scroll down to the bottom of the page to see how much you owe — and get ready to win some prizes. As I mentioned in this blog entry before the season started, I’m going to be giving away a bunch of baseball-related collectibles:

1) a ticket and envelope from the Opening Series in Japan
2) a bat signed by Edgardo Alfonzo
3) a game home run ball hit/signed by Edgardo Alfonzo
4) a Dom DiMaggio Bobblehead doll
5) another Dom DiMaggio Bobblehead doll (yes, there are two)
6) a Hall of Fame postcard signed by Billy Herman
7) a Bernie Williams CD (Wow!!)
8) a signed copy of The Baseball (which I will personalize, if you want)

Make sure that Pitch In For Baseball receives your money before December 1st. That’s when I’m going to conduct the drawing, and remember that the more you donate, the more chances you’ll have to win something. (For every penny that you donate per ball that I snagged this season, your name will be thrown into the hat, so in other words, if you donate $6.40 to the charity, your name will be in there once. If you donate $32 — the equivalent of five cents per ball — your name will be there five times, so you’ll be five times more likely to be chosen. The first person whose name is drawn will have the first choice of which prize to receive. That person will then be ineligible to win anything else, so there will be eight different winners. The second person whose name is chosen will get to choose one of the remaining seven prizes, and so on.)

There are two ways  to pay:

Mail a check, payable to Pitch In For Baseball, to the following address:

Pitch In For Baseball
c/o Zack Hample
1541 Gehman Road
Harleysville, Pa 19438

FYI: The reason for writing “c/o Zack Hample” is to inform the folks at Pitch In For Baseball that you’re one of my donors. This will help them keep track of the all the money I’m raising for them.

Pay with your credit card by following these steps:

1) Visiting my fundraising page.
2) Scroll to the bottom.
3) Look for the red banner that says “Make a contribution.”
4) Click the “Other” option at the bottom of the box.
5) Type in the amount of your donation.
6) Click the “Continue” button down below and following the remaining steps.

Thanks so much! I love being able to use my collection to raise money (and awareness) for this charity, and obviously I couldn’t do it without your help.

Hello Zack. I hear you guys are getting hammered with weather out there. Hope all is well for you!

  2. Zack Hample

Thanks. It’s not too bad yet, although there’ve been moments when the wind was howling. At one point just a few minutes ago, the sky was filled with leaves which were blowing UP.

  3. Quinn

    Hey Zack,
I didn’t make a pledge in the beginning of the year but if I donate money will I be elgible for the prizes? Thanks,

  4. Zack Hample

Good question, Quinn. It’s not too late at all. Just follow the steps and send some money to Pitch In For Baseball, and I’ll add you to the list of donors who will be eligible for prizes.

  5. Quinn

Thank you and stay safe Zack! Wish you and you’re family the best throughout hurricane Sandy.

Richard Justice really irks me. After weeks of pro-Tigers articles and predictions, including just 3 days ago saying what a bad time it was for the TIGERS TO FALL INTO A SLUMP, he comes out with this suck-up, “let me climb up on the bandwagon” article talking about how the Giants are “the perfect team” yada, yada. Gag me.

  7. Garrett Meyer

I just submitted my donation. Great job this year.
Anyway, I was browsing through the commemoratives this year and noticed something peculiar. The Marlins baseball pictured on your website is different than the one I snagged in STL. (Picture here: http://www.mygameballs.com/baseballdata?db=garrett37&action=showphoto&photo_id=2179). Do you see how the logo on my ball is obnoxiously bigger? I don’t remember how many Marlins balls you ended up keeping but do all of yours have the same size logo? weeeeird.

Thanks very much. I’m still waiting to hear if our bookstore suffered any damage, but other than that, everyone and everything seems to be okay. Well, my aunt’s car is parked directly under the partially collapsed crane (http://i.imgur.com/osaqv.jpg), but she does have insurance.

I don’t know who that is, but it sounds annoying.

I see that the donation came through. Thanks! As for the Marlins balls . . . that IS weird. None of mine have logos as big as yours. Not sure what to make of it.

I have PayPal for my own personal use, but if you’re asking about the charity, no.

It’s not too late at all. Thanks so much. I just raised your pledge, so if you take a look at the list of donors on my site, you’ll see that it now says “$0.03” next to your name, which raises your total donation to $19.20. You da man!

  9. Baseball Fan

Zack, just wondering, you raised my pledge, but I never said my name only my blog name, how’d you figure that out?

  10. Mike

Zack, I made my donation and added a little for the ones I snagged. I had a great year and the helicopter drop was certainly the highlight. I hope you are safe and please stay in touch.

Whenever people leave comments on my blog, I get separate emails with the comments and their email addresses and IP addresses and some other info. Similarly, whenever someone makes a donation, I get their email addresses, so I just matched your comment with your donation and raised it. Cool?

Jesus Aitch, you raised it a whole lot. Thanks so much. More opportunities in the prize drawing for you. As for my safety, everything’s fine for now. I’m sure there’s still loose debris high up on buildings all over the city, but my home made it through in one piece.

Hi Zack , glad to hear you’re safe and all is well. How do you suggest I send my donation from Australia ? If I send a cheque ( tax deductible for me ) , what happens with the currency conversion ? Given that the Aussie dollar is stronger than your puny US currency ( ha ha joking ), would using a card be preferable to you ? Please advise your preference and ideas. Hope the book store is OK – reading is one of my passions and they have some interesting volumes. All the best from Oz and hope the 2014 opening day rumour is true as they are doing some major upgrades to the stadium (SCG ) mentioned and it would be great for the sport all round.

Nice! Did you see Andrew McCutchen’s going to send a signed pair of batting gloves to the kid who tweets him the best costume photo? Fun!

  14. Zack Hample

    You’re welcome. :-)

Let me ask the director of the charity and get back to you. As for the book store, we still haven’t been able to get inside. That whole street is closed off, so we’re nervous…

    Didn’t see that. Very cool.

  15. Zack Hample

Cash is fine. Just make sure to include a note in the envelope so that the folks at Pitch In For Baseball will know that you’re donating in on my behalf. Then they can let me know, and I can check you off on the list and add your name to the prize drawing.
