LOST Magazine

Remember the entry I posted a few weeks ago with all my final stats? Well, the editor of an online literary magazine called “LOST” got in touch and asked if he could use it and if I’d write a brief intro about myself to go with it. I said “yes” and “yes” and here it is.
I’m still in CrazyWriter Mode, staying up past 7am every night and pretty much working nonstop on the final edits for my book, which are due in a week. (Right now, I’m adding a mini-section on the gyroball.) I’ve only been outside once in the last five days…though I’ve had a few visitors, including one who slept over last night.

In other news, the Mets broke ground today on their new ballpark. Yay, I think.

SENOR:I know I dont think they could have made my happier.Although I am a little surprised thought the yankees would outbid us BUT I AM SO HAPPY.

  2. Zack

What can I say? “Nerdy” is what I do best.

Good. I’m glad the Yankees didn’t get him.

    I’m surprised too.

  3. tswechtenberg@gmail.com

sorry but i mean t that the red s*cks are the last place i want him to go
mike…and zack maybe it’s time to hit the sack

  4. tswechtenberg@gmail.com

hey speaking of the new stadium…i like how the architechture is an homage to ebbet’s field. too bad they needed to go with corporate sponsorship…i a lot of people were trying to get the stadium named after jackie robinson; which would been a well deserved tribute. i guess they could have picked a WORSE corp than Citi though…like maybe
    Halliburton Park

  5. Zack

    Say it! Say it!

You and your Sox hatred. Yeah yeah. Good point about Halliburton, though. I don’t like the name Citi Field AT ALL, but c’mon, can you blame the Wilpons for selling out? If it were my stadium and someone offered $400 million, I’d let them call it far worse.

  6. tswechtenberg@gmail.com

if it was yours you could call it Argosy Field!!

and BTW…i do LOVE your family’s store…especially the maps…i have gotten a couple there over the years

  7. kayleexxx@aol.com

Matsuzuaka is the sox but HOLY MOLY!
$40 million+ Just to talk about a contract if they sign him he is gunna cost them a boatload of money! He better be what he is believed to be!

  8. yanksfan61293@aol.com

My comments on the Matsuzaka deal:

It was just announced OFFICIALY that the Red Sox won the bid, but we already knew that. What we DIDN’T know is that they bid 51.1 MILLION DOLLARS JUST TO BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE WITH HIM!!!! That’s not even his contract! My feeling is that there are a few ways this could go…

    1. Red Sox offer him a tiny contract and he goes back to Japan. The Sox may just have bid so much for him just to keep him away from the Yankees.

    2. Red Sox want to prove that they are in it to win it and plan on offering him a huge contract like he may deserve. He becomes a Red Sox. He is very good. Cashman sighted crying in a phone booth outside Yankee Stadium.

    3. Red Sox want to prove Red Sox want to prove that they are in it to win it and plan on offering him a huge contract like he may deserve. He becomes a Red Sox. He absolutely STINKS!!! Cashman throws a huge party at Yankee Stadium for every Yankee player, executive, and fan celebrating that they didn’t waste millions and millions of dollars on Matsuzaka.

I’m saying that Matsuzaka could stink because he comes from Japan. Even if you are amazing in Japan (as Matsuzaka was), American hitters are more advanced than Japanese hitters and use different strageties, possibly making it hard for Matsuzaka to adjust. That is why he could be a total waste of (possibly) more than $100 million dollars, if he signs a contract worth more than 50 million.

    We’ll see, we’ll see.

Oh, and Zack, when you wrote your book, did you know EVERYTHING you put in your book or did you do a lot of research?

  10. tswechtenberg@gmail.com

hey yanksfan…you make several good (and funny ) points. the sox could definiely use him…their starting rotation is even in worse shape than ours…but i REALLY think that their main point was to keep US from getting him
    mike ( another yanks fan)

  11. Zack

Argosy Field has a nice ring. Maybe someday. Very cool that you’ve been there and know the place…and that you’ve bought stuff. Way to support the family biz!

    I know, it’s CrazyTime.

No, not yet, I’ll check it out…

You crack me up. I love it. But I don’t think Matsuzaka will stink. The guy throws in the mid to high 90s and has four solid pitches. I think that skill will carry over. He might not dominate, but I think he could be pretty effective. Good question about my book. The answer is that I did a LOT of research. I’ve learned so much about baseball in the process of working on this book. It’s really amazing. Little things. Big things. I thought I knew it all, and I was wrong.

  12. allmarsh@aol.com

Bad News Zack! The Mets traded two guys you have gotten balls from.

Acquired outfielder Ben Johnson and pitcher Jon Adkins from the San Diego Padres for pitchers Heath Bell and Royce Ring.

  13. kayleexxx@aol.com

I am just afraid that matsuzuaka may become another josh becckett(yes i hate him)or Matt clement if he stinks though he may become another julian tavarez.believe me he doesnt want to goo down that road.

  14. Zack

It’s actually good news. I’d prefer to get some fresh blood in Shea and get to add some new names to my list. (Sadly, Johnson has already tossed me a ball.)

First I got an agent. Then I worked with her on my book proposal, which is basically a very elaborate sales pitch. (My proposal was 125 pages because it contained several sample chapters and some press clips.) And then she sent it out to publishers. One place rejected it almost immediately, but then within a few weeks, the offer came in from Vintage, and we decided to accept it. Writers do sometimes submit proposals directly to publishers without going through an agent, but that’s really hard. It would be like walking into Yankee Stadium and saying, “Hi, I’m pretty good, and you should put me on the team. Let me take a few swings in the batting cage and show you.”

I hope you enjoy it. Best right fielders…well, I think Roberto Clemente would be an obvious choice, but what about someone like Ichiro?

You’re such a pessimist. But I guess that a requirement for anyone who likes the Red Sox.

  15. kayleexxx@aol.com

No,It is more of a requirement to be a pessimist when you have a stupid yankees fan for a boyfriend.
